Dr Charles Merfield aka Merf is the BHU’s resident scientist and lecturer. He started his career studying commercial horticulture in the UK and then managing organic vegetable farms in both the UK and Aotearoa supplying farm shops, box schemes and restaurants. His research and teaching covers a wide range of topics including soil health, non-chemical weed and pest management, organic certification, and machinery.
