Chrystal Te Ohorere O’Connor (Ngāti Hauā, Ngāti Pāoa) is a lecturer at Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki – Lincoln University. Her teaching explores mahika kai, looking at the connections between people, places, resources, and food, alongside He Kai Kei Aku Ringa, a course that integrates Māori worldviews, agriculture, and governance. As a food biochemist, her research focuses on sustainable foods and indigenous culinary traditions. She enjoys coming to the BHU to teach about mahika kai and Māori values, sharing kōrero on how people connect with land and kai through both traditional and contemporary practices.
